Tom Letrou

I am a PhD candidate in agricultural and environmental economics at Paris-Saclay Applied Economics. My research focuses on the sustainability of European agricultural and livestock systems, and on how environmental limits can be integrated into economic analysis and policy design.

My work combines quantitative modelling, environmental accounting and scenario analysis to study the links between food production, land use, emissions, nutrient flows, biodiversity pressures and resource use. More broadly, I aim to contribute to a better understanding of the transformations needed to make European food systems compatible with ecological boundaries while accounting for economic and policy constraints.

My PhD contributes to the STEP UP project, in particular through work connecting the definition of a Safe Operating Space for European livestock systems with economic modelling of agricultural transition pathways.
